How can I keep my Useful, Beautiful?
Heat in general; direct or reflective sunlight and extreme variations in temperature, particularly underfloor heating, can cause discolouration and fade, drying, warp and bow. Choose the placement of your piece carefully. Ensure it is not in direct sunlight and avoid placing your Blank in front of an air conditioner or heater. On hot days draw the curtains in the area to avoid direct sunlight hitting the surface. Use coasters and placemats where possible to prolong the integrity of the finish and ensure any objet d'art has a felt underside to avoid scratching surfaces.
What are safe ways to clean my Blank?
To remove general dust and dirt wipe your piece down with a soft, dry cloth (preferably microfiber). For handprints, food and grease dampen the cloth with soapy water, wipe down with gentle circular movements, and then remove all moisture from the surface with a microfiber cloth. Never use abrasive chemical cleaning liquids, furniture polishes or sprays to clean the surface. They may cause permanent damage or discolouration to the finish.
Spills
The key with spills is to work quickly and avoid leaving any liquids on surfaces as they may stain or raise the finish. If a spill occurs, wipe it with a damp cloth, followed by a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture. Ensure your piece is not exposed to high or continuous levels of moisture, steam and humidity.
Stains
If a stubborn stain persists use a damp microfibre cloth with mild soapy water (dishwashing liquid is ideal) and a dry cloth to remove residual moisture. Let the water and the soap do the work, do not rub or scrub, this may scratch or alter the sheen of the surface.
To remove oil-based stains all effort must be made to remove the spillage immediately. We recommend an automotive wax and grease remover using a soft cloth. Once the remover is applied, immediately wipe away, gently, with a dry soft cloth. We do not recommend leaving the cleaning product on your painted surface for a lengthy time as this too can compromise your surface. Ensure you use spill mats or drop cloths when using your Blank for craft activities that involve glue, markers and paints as they may damage the surface.
Moving your furniture
Avoid dragging or sliding your Blank, pieces should be lifted to avoid damaging your
furniture or floor. Larger items such as dining tables will need to be dismantled to be moved, should other Blanks need to squeeze through tight spaces or travel longer distances, they may also require dismantling. Moving blankets or padded blankets are essential for protecting your furniture. Ensure you label all parts clearly and take note of any numbers on the furniture that correspond with specific parts. Be aware of the placement of protective ratchet straps, or any other safety and stabilising equipment, as this may damage the furniture during travel.
